The Amazon Kindle Reader – A New Publishing Platform For You To Experiment With

For many internet marketers, e-book sales are a key element in their online business efforts. The vast majority of marketers working online will have promoted e-books, as authors or affiliates, at some time or another.

Currently, most e-books are distributed in PDF format, which is suitable for the popular Adobe Acrobat reader. Practically everybody has a copy of Acrobat on their hard drive, so this makes perfect sense. Anyone who does not already have a copy of this program can simply visit Adobe’s website where they can download it free of charge. In order to cover delivery fees, Amazon make a small deduction. Typically this is no more than a few cents and is set by the size, in kilobytes, of the e-book. This might be less than you could make selling a e-book – nevertheless, the potential sales volume coupled with the fact that the process is free, may well make it an attracive option for you.

The Amazon Kindle is often proposed to be the future of books. Obviously this applies to both books and e-books. Publishing a Kindle edition of your e-book could be a very good opportunity for you to profit from the new and innovative technology. Howard Shapiro?s Success in Publishing Books for Children

Publishing Choices for Authors

I have concidered myself a self published writer(fiction author), but apperently, a self published author is one who pays a POD publisher to print up a run  and the author does his own distributing and selling and keeps the lions share of the book sales. He also has to do twice the amount of promoting work  than the “Traditional” publisher.

I have three books done by a POD publishers.One that did not charge a fee and one that did. Both of these examples did not quite fill the discription I provided above. Both have me under contract. Under their contracts I recieve a royalty for as long as they have me sighned up for. One  has a more limiting contract and one has a more liberal contract. Neith of these make me a “self published author”;though it would seem so.

I do think that the “self publishing” way will be more common in the near future. With the cost of printing(paper etc),and the advancement of the e-book and other digitally produced books, the mode to ship the orders direct electronically,it will happen soon. Thereforer with my next books I am seeking a literary agent and will pursue a “traditional” publisher. Yes, I will still have to do promo work but the ‘traditional” publisher will have all ready made deals with some bookstores.This would be to my advantage.

Published Book Features President-elect Obama as the Choice of the World

Book Author Published Scriptural Model On Suffering

Charles P. Arnold, Jr. illustrates four classes of suffering as a model based solely on Scriptures in his self-published book ‘Suffering – A Biblical Study’.

The book author defines each class according to an individual’s faith in God, obedience to His Word and instructions, and the main source of suffering.

Arnold explains that suffering could be stimulated by internal forces affecting individuals or by external factors surrounding them.

The Biggest Challenge Facing a Poet, Getting Published

The best advice that I can give any child or adult who wants to be a poet is to read lots of poetry. Get a feel for poetry. Look at different styles of poetry. I have grown so much in my own writing by reading the work of other poets. Don’t be afraid to accept constructive criticism. Part of being a writer is being able to accept criticism. Everyone who writes poetry is eager to publish a book but why not start out small. Before you send off your poetry for publication ask yourself if you are ready. It might be wise to Join an online poetry community and share your poetry with other poets who will be honest with you and offer some constructive criticism.

Once you are ready to take that plunge the best place to start is poetry magazines and ezines . You might also want to check some publishers that accept poetry for anthologies. You are going to want to purchase a copy of Poet’s Market that is published annually. This is an essential book for poets who are interested in publishing their work. For younger poets some places you might want to check out are Poetry for Kids , Teen Ink and About.com’s Creative Writing for Teens.

You are also going to want to reach your market. You are going to want to see just what kind of poetry the magazine publishes as often time’s magazines will receive poetry that is just not right for their magazine. Submission guidelines are on most sites and many magazines will post a sample of poems that can be found in their magazine.

When submitting your poetry to magazines. Always present it in typescript, using a simple 10 or 12 point font like Arial or Times New Roman. Present a cover letter that is professional addressing the magazine editor by their name. Offer the poems for publication in their magazines, be sure to list your other publications if any and thank the editor for considering your work for possible publication. Send them about five of your poems and always include a S.A.E. (Self Addressed Envelope) with your submission. Editors most times do not return your poems but without submitting a S.A.E. your poems won’t even be looked at. Also make sure that you have included enough return postage in your S.A.E.

Example of a cover letter:

Dear (name),

Please consider the enclosed poems for publication in (name of magazine). I have enclosed a self-addressed stamped envelope for your reply. Thank you for your consideration of my work for possible publication. You’re very brief bio here and other publications here.)

If you are submitting by email make sure that you follow the guidelines on the website. Most publishers prefer the poem to be submitted as an attachment in word document. If you are unsure of the guidelines it never hurts to email the editor and ask them. You should never submit a poem that has already been published or that you have sent to another magazine to be published. This includes if you have published them on your own homepage. In most cases magazines will consider a poem posted on your website or an open poetry community to be already published. Therefore you will not be able to claim first rights to it and most magazines; newspapers etc will not accept it as submission.

Sandra Soli of byline magazine says if a poem appears on a web page, it is published. If a poem can be accessed via the general internet user, it is published. On the other hand, if the forum is closed to a limited membership and your poem is not available for general viewing, then she would consider that a work shopped item just as in a private critique group. This concerns how easily the piece can be accessed by readers. Most web appearances are open to all and byline magazines considers that to be a publication.

If you are submitting work that has already appeared in the web for publication, mention in the cover letter the forum(s) where the poems have been posted and let the editor make an informed decision. You really do not want to do anything that jeopardizes your chances of seeing your poem published. Also be sure to keep track of all your submissions. Then prepare yourself also for a long wait. Chicken Soup for the soul states that they receive 100 stories per day and it takes up to three years to develop a book.

Poets should not be discouraged by rejections. Part of being a poet or any kind of writer is preparing yourself for rejection. Trust me I’m an over sensitive person and when I got my first rejection letter I thought it was the end of the world. But I later learned that a rejection letter does not mean that you are by any means a bad poet. A rejection letter should never discourage you from pursuing your craft. Not all poetry will be published but find comfort in knowing that someday somewhere your poem will find its rightful reader. By all means consider me and every other writer who has been rejected on your side. Having your poetry published is only one part of writing. Until it happens and you have that first publication enjoy your writing and join a community and find a few good readers and supporters of your work and be proud that you took the step and sent your poetry off to be considered for publication.

I have a confession of my own I have only had my poetry published in a few newspapers, ezines, and my own book that was published by one of the worse publishers out there but that has not discourage me one bit from working towards fulfilling my dreams or wishing my fellow poets great success. I have had my accomplishments and one of the greatest is seeing that an article such as this one I have just written might help just one of you. Many poets end up self-publishing their own writing and that isn’t a bad rout to go either. Publishing Yourself is Easier Than Ever, Still A Process

Many people want to be writers.  You slog away, daily putting words on paper and hope that your work will be worthy enough to be published one day.  It is a dream held by thousands, including me.

But the publishing business is a place where hopes get dashed, dreams get delayed and rejection comes standard.  It took me a long time to realize that it wasn’t about me, but about the subjective process that these editors and agents go through when choosing a book for publication. It’s not easy to get accepted by a publisher. What do you do if you know your work has value, but can’t seem to get it out there? You self publish.

With the demise of the traditional publishing industry in recent times, it has become even more important that the voices of first time authors get heard in the word, and that’s why self-publishing has become such a powerful industry.  In the last year there has been a 132% increase in self-published books, while the traditional publishing business has declined significantly as publishing houses and bookstores go out of business.

After many rejections, I decided to take control of my own publishing destiny and self-published my first book When The Crow Sings.  It was a decent success.  It made it to the shelves of Borders bookstores and it’s available on Amazon.  It’s not hard, but it is time consuming, and can be expensive.

But it doesn’t have to be.  There are many other possibilities for publishing your own book these days, and it can be as easy as 1-2-3.  Amazon has a program for self-publishing called Create Space that allows you to post your books to Amazon.  There is also Lulu, which will do everything for you except write it.

The Create Space option works well because your books are readily available on Amazon, but if you go this rout, you’ll be promoting the book mostly via the internet. So, make sure that your audience is web-savvy enough to find you online, and try know what keywords they are using to search for you. If you have the keywords, you can really optimize your blog site to capture as much traffic as possible. Then, if your book seems good enough, you’ll start to see conversion.

The method with which you choose to publish your book matters less than your subject matter. How-to guides are wildly popular right now, but much of that type of information is available in the online “Freeconomy.” Make sure to provide information that is unique, or uniquely presented in your book. Otherwise, it will be difficult to sell online or otherwise. But, remember there are still niches in the swollen information market. Carving your niche out will bring you success, and there are plenty of tools to help you do it.

The Elements of a Successful Career in Self-publishing

As an author, the most important person in your career is you. Self-publishing takes writing into a higher level since it’s you who will spearhead every single detail that makes up your book marketing campaign. However, you should learn to choose a number of allies who will help you all the way to your book’s launching. You don’t know everything. Going solo in doing your marketing campaign will leave you drained and frustrated. You need people who will help you cut through the competitive market.

The future of your writing career basically depends on these elements: (1) you as an author, (2) your book/s, (3) marketing and promotions, (4) and networking.

You as an Author
Just like establishing brands, you need to standout among all the other authors. It is not a question of talent or skill since appreciation in writing is diverse and subjective. This boils down to your creativity; letting readers understand and appreciate what you are writing about. When people can relate to your writing, you become successful in being a part of their lives.

Your Book/s
How can your book possibly compete against bestsellers? It’s equally important to plan out your writing career. State your goal and enumerate your objectives. In that way, you won’t have a difficult time establishing your niche. It takes much consistency for you to be known for something.

Marketing and Promotions
Your books won’t sell unless you do extensive marketing campaigns. Competition is fierce in the market. Doing your best means picking the right marketing tools to help in your book’s marketing campaign. Take time to evaluate on the book marketing product or service and always consider their prices.

Networking
Networking is cost-free. But it takes time and social investment for you to succeed in this aspect. You won’t be able to attract readers if you just talk pure business. Networking also takes a lot of creativity and out of the box ideas to draw in sustainable interest and attention. The more promotions you do, the more opportunities you create.

But above everything else, remember that you are the most powerful marketing weapon. You are your book’s advantage.
